13: Megalithic Remains and Their Inheritors

The most obvious physical evidence of an advanced civilization that preceded our own recorded history exists in the form of numerous megalithic stone structures that have been discovered all over the world. These structures can be found in Egypt, England, India, Turkey, China, Tibet, South America, and elsewhere. They include temples and other monuments that have been constructed out of immense blocks of stone that had to have been cut and moved by a means that even our modern technology can’t easily match. It is this fact alone, more than any other, that leads to the logical conclusion that these must have been built by a lost civilization with advanced technologies that existed before our own time.

As well as these numerous stone structures, what have been assumed to be mere legends and myths surrounding our most ancient civilizations, no matter in which part of the world they might originate from, all tell a similar story of god-like beings who came from the skies or from across the sea, and who ruled over the human race or were otherwise revered by them in times long past. These ancient legends, although stemming from areas of the world that have developed in virtual isolation from each other, often describe the very same underlying elements in their stories about these gods, who often have very similar names or titles in these legends from different cultures. These legends very often describe these gods as having miraculous technological abilities, and tell of how they brought civilization to the people of Earth. The art and handicrafts of many of these isolated human civilizations often bear certain striking similarities in style between them that cannot otherwise be explained, as do many of their customs.

However, perhaps the most striking similarity of all between these isolated human civilizations is the inexplicability regarding their uncanny knowledge of mathematics and astronomy. At least, that is if we’re to assume that the megalithic structures that bare witness to this advanced knowledge were actually erected by these otherwise primitive peoples.

The evidence of this advanced knowledge lies primarily within the structures themselves, and there is little or no other evidence that any of our own early human civilizations actually built these structures themselves or had the degree of knowledge and craftsmanship that has been purposely incorporated into their structure and design. No oral legends or written texts accompany the histories of these various peoples that would indicate that they actually possessed such advanced knowledge and skills themselves. Nor are there any oral or written legends tied to these structures that reveal anything about either their method of construction or their purpose. On the contrary, there is every indication that most or all of these structures have existed since long before any of our known civilizations ever came to possess them, and it’s more reasonable to think, after considering all of the evidence that has come to light over the years, that these structures and the mathematical and astronomical knowledge that they incorporate into their design were built by a far more ancient civilization than we commonly realize.

Those peoples of our world that retain ancient legends surrounding their ancestral past often have no knowledge of who built these megaliths, or how they were built. At best, credit is given to their gods, who used their ‘magic’ to build these monuments. These gods are more often than not described as living and breathing creatures with traits very similar to humans, rather than what we might think of as gods in traditional religious terms. Whether these gods were from a previous human civilization, such as the legendary Atlantis, and whether they were perhaps of another species altogether, is uncertain, but such possibilities must be considered separately, since we don’t know the intricacies of events that may have played out over a very long human history that may go back much further than we commonly realize.

The apparent interest in astronomy that these ancient peoples had can’t be easily explained by our current understandings. Not only is it hard to conceive how they would have learned much of what they apparently knew, as is evidenced by certain alignments and configurations of the structures they are credited with building, but the question of why they would have bothered with learning such knowledge leaves us even more puzzled. If we accept what the legends of these various cultures say, then this knowledge, and the megalithic structures in which it is recorded, were inherited from a god-like race who had much more of a plausible reason to know these things and who would have had the capability to build these structures. The cultures we credit with building these structures and attaining such knowledge were merely their inheritors.
